We used Tony and the Flyka electric vehicle on Endeavour while shooting on location in Oxford. The vehicle was fast, manoevurable and reliable. And most importantly quiet - we'd chosen to film during the University exams and I can't think of many tracking vehicles that would have got our shots without getting us thrown out of the locations. I look forward to working with him and the Flyka again.
Troy, Harry Potter
I arrived at the shoot in anticipation of hard-mounting the Steadicam to this new silent Electric Dolly.
I was very impressed from the start. The crew had me rigged in minutes & only had my best interests & comfort in mind.
The ease of use was brilliant & as I was hard-mounted to the vehicle, I was able to concentrate on getting the right shots.
Re-set times were instant & the smoothness of take off & stopping was very gentle indeed. A very impressive bit of kit!
I look forward to working with The Flyka on different filming situations in the future & would recommend it to other operators to try it.
Using The Flyka was a painless experience. Set-up was flexible, quick & the machine is silent in operation. A great way to shoot running shots, with or without dialogue.
Working with Tony and the Flyka vehicle is always a pleasure, Tony always ensures that whatever the shot, the vehicle is rigged quickly and comfortably.
An on-board comms system always ensures that I have the ability to finesse the shot and keep Tony in the loop about what I want in terms of speed or control at all times.
My favourite feature though is the ability of this vehicle to access locations that literally no other tracking vehicle could, for instance we recently managed to drive through a doorway, round a curved hallway, down an elevator and out at the bottom to then execute a high speed tracking shot inside the greenwich foot tunnel, no other vehicle with the speed or stability of the flyka would have been able to access this space"
The Flyka is a great bit of kit for Steadicam operators with big ideas. I used the Flyka on a BMX chase scene and was able to soft mount off the front of the kart in super low mode, travel along with the stunt man/BMX'er at speed then jump off and circle around him as he crashed and rolled, creating a fast and dynamic shot.
The potential of the shots to come from this kit are limitless and am looking forward to my next go!

Having been introduced to the Flyka, I was very impressed with its ease of use & flexibility for me as a Steadicam Operator.
Hard mounting the camera was quick & easy.
The vehicle was rigged with my own comfort in mind & also able to get the camera in any position we wanted.
The step on/off facility both front & back was a very tidy addition to the kit. The distance the vehicle can be rigged from the floor made the step off absolutely seamless & a joy to work with.
I see this as a very viable option for new filming techniques & look forward to the faster models that Tony Holker is currently working on.
We had to shoot on two very rough terrains; one was a totally drenched clay football pitch & the other a fairly rough grass football field. On both locations, Tony's Flyka dolly allowed us to capture a type of shot that would ordinarily be very difficult.
We were able to capture a shot from a static position, move faster than running speed & then comfortably step off the vehicle at the right point to move the Steadicam into the centre of the action. It was simple & neat. I would recommend it for many applications.
Tremendously fast, versatile and comfortable vehicle to work off. Easily reconfigured in a matter or minutes. I've had a great day every time Tony has been on set with the Flyka.
We searched for a dolly system that would allow us to capture actors as if they were skating on ice & that was also going to be safe for the actors.
Having been passed the details for The Flyka and after a test drive on the ice decided to commission a trailer for it to tow. A sort of low loader for actors!
On the day of filming, not only did we manage to capture more than enough footage, but also the versatility of the vehicles allowed us to create shots that we would have struggled to have created.
It’s a great new piece of kit with loads of possible uses!
As a Director, I always want to create film that is visually stunning to the audience. The freedom of movement & creativity that The Flyka gave us on the ice was impressive.
Re-set times were fast. Rigging for the Steadicam was also incredibly quick & the smooth movement on the ice meant that the actors felt safe enough to move without harnessing.
I’m not sure how we’d have shot the sequence without Tony and his Flyka.
We used The Flyka on a cold, wet day along a narrow, muddy canal bank and it performed brilliantly.
After taking me through the rigging options and providing me with a short saftey briefing, the crew were rigged quickly and worked hard to make sure I was both safe and comfortable on the vehicle.
Using the Flyka allowed me to concentrate more on framing and composition and not worry about the unstable and slippery surface on which we were operating. Yes, I could have used my Segway, or my Rickshaw, but with either of these there would have been compromises in speed, safety or the quality of the finished shot.
I have been party to The Flyka’s development and I believe it is an innovation that has already earned its keep on set.
I worked with Tony & his crew of the early development of testing this new style of tracking vehicle. I could see the potential for this idea instantly & am really proud to have been a part of the initial testing.
The motors are super-quiet & the take off is really like nothing else on the market.
The open whisper communication system allows me to talk with the Grip, but also concentrate on framing the right shot, while the Steadicam takes out all the imperfections of the outide locations, including icey streets & up pavements.
An incredible simple, yet innovative piece of kit. I look forward to seeing this grow into an industry standard tracking vehicle with the added bonus of sound recording during takes.
I was very pleased to see a new type of Grip Equipment come onto the scene in the form of the Electric Dolly.
Everything is standard fit, so we were able to put the camera exactly where the DP wanted it & also make sure the operator was comfortable & safe.
We were able to perform a type of shot that we would have otherwise not have been able to create & I look forward to using the Flyka as a better alternative to a Rickshaw.
This tracking vehicle will certainly make life easier on set without having to pull heavy cameras & operators around by hand, take after take.
Tony, Great job - I must say the footage has come-out very well and we are happy with the way it was executed. The Flyka sure helped us get some unique shots which enhance the value of the film without doubt.
Grip, Theatre of Dreams (Feature)
Theatre of Dreams provided me with a lot of technical problems, which where going to need a different approach then usual. One of these problems was creating interesting, fast-paced dynamic steadicam shoots with untrained child actors. To capture the scenes, many takes where needed to get the shots to complete the sequence.
Flyka gave me and the Steadicam operator the ability to do many takes whithout wearing out the Steadicam operator or myself. Also it allowed us the freedom to mount the camera anywhere on the vehicle and get some really great shoots.
Flyka allows you to get places other tracking vehicles can not go, and get shoots other tracking vehicles can not get. Flyka is a useful tool for the grip department and any production, And the service from Tony was outstanding. Flyka is unique tool for unique shoots.
This is a very hard-wearing and reliable, complete bit of kit. It's rigid, fast, great over uneven ground and most importantly safe which leaves me free to concentrate on my shots without worry. It's endless mounting configurations and features, such as the step on/off plates, adjustable seats, chest brace and comms system all add up to a very practical piece of equipment thats comfortable to work from and frees you up to explore shots that would otherwise be very difficult to achieve.
We have shot various projects with this dolly & the results we get from it’s versatility & quick rig time has allowed us to shoot tracking shots we simply could not get on any other kit on the market.
I was able to get the camera through spaces I would not have thought possible on a six-minute, one take shot, that included a step off, as well as a step back on, seamlessly & still able to record dialogue. Brilliant & brilliant.
BBC HD, National Geographic, Sky, Discovery
Flyka accelerates and decelerates on a very smooth curve and as an operator, it’s brilliant, because your shots are bang on every time. Tony totally understands the Steadicam and what its capabilities are, and what the operator needs.
Tiffen, Steadicam UK
Tiffen International, in conjunction with NFTS, have found the Flyka to be an extremely useful tool for training Steadicam operators in vehicle-mounted Steadicam techniques.
